About Edward G. Robinson
Having amassed about five decades of activities as a screen and stage actor, Edward G. Robinson made appearances in over 100 films and 30 plays on Broadway.
He gained notoriety for his portrayals of gangsters in some of his films, including his breakthrough role Caesar Enrico Bandello in the crime film “Little Caesar” and Johnny Rocco in “Key Largo”.
He also appeared in radio plays in the 1930s and the 1940s.
Family Life
He was brought into being by Morris Goldenberg and Sarah Guttman as Emanuel Goldenberg. He was of Romanian Jewish heritage.
For almost 30 years (1927-1956), he was married to actress Gladys Lloyd Cassell. They had one child together, actor Edward G. Robinson Jr. He also married dress designer Jane Bodenheimer in 1958.
Achievements
He was posthumously honored with an Honorary Academy Award. He also won a Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award.
Death
He died on 26 January 1973 from cancer of the bladder.
