About Edmund Kemper
Kemper had the composure of a lamb and the mind of the devil himself. Not even the police believed him when he initially confessed to killing 8 women. The soft-spoken giant just did not look the part. Time however proved how wrong they all were. Kemper was indeed the infamous Co-Ed Killer.
Early Years
As a boy, he loved to torture and kill animals. Kemper's mother was an alcoholic who had the habit of verbally abusing him and his father. Owing to this and many other issues, the young boy ran away from home in his early teens.
Notable Facts
Between May 1972 and April, 1973, Kemper brutally murdered 6 female hitchhikers, his mother and her best friend. He raped their corpses, chopped them up and buried their heads in his backyard. An unusually clever man, he had always escaped his crime scenes undetected. He was eventually arrested after confessing his crimes to the police. He also confessed to killing his grandparents when he was age 15. In November, 1973, he was found guilty of first degree murder and was subsequently imprisoned at the California Medical Facility in Vacaville.
Pop Culture
The Netflix’s drama series, “Mindhunter,” was inspired by Kemper’s life. The series, which was created by Joe Penhall, starred Jonathan Groff, Cotter Smith, Holt McCallany, and Hannah Gross. Canadian actor Cameron Britton was cast as Ed Kemper in the series.
