About Eddy Grant
Eddy Grant, born Edmond Montague Grant, has performed for more than fifty years as a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He first came to prominence as a founding member of the English pop, R&B and rock music group, The Equals. He sang backing vocals and played the guitar in the group, which was formed in 1965 and had hits such as “Baby Come Back” and “I Get So Excited”. He began a solo career after leaving the group in 1971. His best-known hit is “Electric Avenue”, released in 1982.
Family Life
He was raised in Linden, Guyana. He moved to the United Kingdom, where his parents had been living since his childhood, in 1960. He has been married to Ann Grant since 1969. He has a daughter named Maria.
Achievements
He was honored with a Wordsworth McAndrew Award. The Guyanese government also gave him a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016.
Trivia
He is credited with formulating the music genre known as ringbang.
