About Dražen Petrović
Dražen Petrović may have had his excellent NBA career end abruptly but his legacy is one that will never be forgotten in the annals of the league.
The Croatian shooting guard initially received recognition in Europe for his stellar performances in club-level leagues (with Cibona and Sibenka) and in international-level tournaments, first with Yugoslavia and then Croatia.
He went to the Olympics thrice and won a bronze and two silver medals.
In the NBA, he played for the Brooklyn Nets (then known as New Jersey Nets) and Portland Trail Blazers.
Family Life
He was the son of Biserka Mikulandra and Jovan Petrovic. He was the younger brother of former point guard, Aleksandar Petrovic, who became a basketball coach upon his retirement.
Achievements
He was named in the 1993 “All-NBA Third Team”. He was the FIBA World Championship MVP, Mr Europa Award winner and Croatian Sportsman of the Year in 1986.
Death
He died on 7 June 1993 in a car crash.
