Dubbed “The Clown Prince of Coaching,” by some commentators who were not enthused about his coaching style, the former basketball player was drafted as 22nd overall during the 1961 NBA draft.
Early Years
During his days at UNC, he won many hearts with his court prowess. He was a 2-time All American.
As Player
In 1961, he was a 1st round pick of Chicago Packers but never appeared in an NBA game. He had earlier been fingered in a gambling scandal during the 1961 NCAA men basketball tournament and had been blacklisted by the NBA, though he was later cleared of all charges.
As Coach
He spent 2 years at Carolina as an assistant coach and later as head coach at San Antonio. His teams were infamous for their poor fast breaks and high-octane offense. His offense strategy however yielded some great scores.
Trivia
He ranked No.2 on the list of 10 worst head coaches in the history of Philly.
