About Donald Trump
Donald Trump is an American politician who assumed office as the 45th President of the United States on January 20, 2017. His term in office ended on January 20, 2021. He is someone who first came to the public’s spotlight due to being a highly-successful business mogul. His main venture has always been recognized as real estate.
However, unlike most other successful businessmen, due to his excessive wealth, outgoing personality and other ventures (such as sports and media) Donald has long been a celebrity in and of himself. For instance, he has hosted major sporting events and television shows, as well as appearing in a countless number of entertainment programs throughout the years.
However, his biggest claim to fame has by far been being elected President of the United States in 2016, despite having virtually no political background.
Donald Trump was sworn in as President of the United States on 20th January 2017. In doing so he became the first billionaire to actually win the US Presidency and also set the record as being the oldest individual to be a newly-elected President. Trump himself is of the Republican Party. And he defeated his Democratic adversary, Hillary Clinton, to win the Presidency in 2016.
Family Life
Donald Trump has had two wives before, Melania Trump – he married Melania in 2005. He already had five children upon becoming President. Three of them – Donald Jr. (1977), Ivanka (1981) and Eric (1984) – are from his first marriage to Ivana Trump (née Zelníčková). That union lasted from 1977 to 1992.
His second marriage, to Marla Maples from 1993 to 1999, produced one child, Tiffany (1993). And in 2006 Barron was born to him and Melania Trump (née Knauss). So accordingly he also has quite a few grandchildren.
And for the record, Donald Trump’s parents were Fredrick Christ and Mary Anne Trump.
Achievements
Donald Trump inherited his real-estate business from his father in 1971. His dad was already wealthy alright, but Donald took things further by expanding the company, most especially into Manhattan, the center of New York City. In fact, it is there where you will find Trump Tower itself, which is the headquarters of his brand, the Trump Organization.
Throughout the course of his business career, he also acquired quite a few casinos, resorts, and other holdings.
In fact, during the late 20th century Donald Trump was recognized as the premier businessman in the United States. And he was so popular in that regard that his 1987 book, “Trump: The Art of the Deal”, was a New York Times Best Seller and one of the most-recognized business texts in the history of America; long before he actually became President.
But as aforementioned, the crown jewel of his achievements is becoming President of the United States. But his presidency has had mixed results. On one hand, he is arguably the most domestically-despised President in American history. Yet on the other, as a further testament to his business savvy, in his first tenure, the nation’s economy seemed to be much better than in years prior.
Trivia
When Donald secured the US Presidency, he became the 45th President in the history of the United States. Thus, he is often referred to by the nickname “45”.
And 45 was impeached as President on 18th December 2019. The charges he was accused of, if you will, are obstruction of Congress and abuse of power. When this occurred he became the third US President to suffer this judgment (impeachment), after Andrew Johnson in 1868 and Bill Clinton in 1998.
Indeed Donald has had to regularly deal with scandals and leaks during his relatively-brief political career. For instance, while he was still hotly debating with Hillary Clinton for the office, a recording from 2005 surfaced where he was basically bragging about sexually harassing women. In the video, he also stated that he tried to seduce and “f*ck” a married woman.
But perhaps the most divisive issue of his entire Presidency is his plan to greatly strengthen a physical wall designed to stem immigrants from Mexico entering into the United States. Such barriers have existed even before he took office. But his resoluteness in expanding the project has led to the structure being renamed, colloquially, the Trump Wall.
One of the crowning achievements of Donald’s reign was a meeting between the leaders of the United States and the heads of a country that is perceived as one of its main rivals, North Korea. And as such, Trump and the Supreme Leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-un, had a summit in Singapore on the date of 7 June 2018.
As far as the Vietnam War itself, Trump avoided being deployed to combat, during what some considered to be the prime of his youth, by receiving a number of draft deferments.
Moreover, in the early 1970s, Donald Trump (as well his father) was accused, by the US Justice Department, of discriminating against African-Americans in terms of who they allowed renting their apartments to.
From 1996 to 2015, Mr. Trump actually owned the Miss USA beauty pageant.
A true testament to Mr. Trump’s pre-presidency fame is the fact that despite not being a professional actor he has quite an impressive acting résumé, which usually required Donald to portray himself as a character. For instance, he has been featured, as himself, on television shows as diverse as “All My Children” (1992), “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” (1994), “The Roseanne Show” (1998) and “WrestleMania” (1991).
But television-wise The Donald’s most-renowned showing was a reality-TV program he hosted for 14 seasons (2004-2015) entitled “The Apprentice”. In fact, this show was so popular that it is considered to have contributed to Trump winning the Presidency.
Donald Trump also happens to be something of a social-media celebrity. For instance, at one point it was estimated that over a quarter of all adults in the United States followed him on Twitter. And he often utilized the venue to make eye-raising, controversial and offensive remarks.
He’s also hosted quite a few sporting events, such as major boxing fights, usually at one of his own venues. For instance, the classic bout in which Mike Tyson solidified himself as the champ of the boxing world was held at the Plaza Hotel in Atlantic City (owned by Donald Trump) in 1988. Indeed, according to Tyson, back in those days Donald was “putting on the biggest events in boxing”.
But we have to presume that Donald’s favorite sport is golf. This is because he actually owns quite a few golf courses. Most of them tend to be located on the east coast of the United States. But he has also built courses in locations as diverse as Los Angeles, Scotland and even the Trump International Golf Club in Dubai.
As far as his religious leanings are concerned 45 is recognized as a Christian, more specifically a Presbyterian.
The Donald is also a self-professed germaphobe, meaning that he has an unusually strong fear of germs. As such, he is not keen on shaking hands or people sneezing and coughing while he’s around.
Donald Trump has established commercial and residential properties overseas. For instance, there is the impressive JW Marriott Panama, which he finished building in 2011. And there’s also the trendy villa on the Caribbean island of St. Martin, which miraculously survived Hurricane Irma in 2017, which was under his control when the disaster struck.
Facts
He bid for a second term in office, on the ticket of the Republican Party, in the November 2020 presidential election. He lost to Joe Biden, who served as the vice president of the United States under the Barack Obama administration.
Trump’s defeat meant he became the 11th sitting president in the history of the United States to lose a second term bid. George H. W. Bush, who served as the 41st president, also lost his second term bid in 1992.
Trump handed over power to Joe Biden, who became the 46th President of the United States, on January 20, 2021.
