About Don Mattingly
Don Mattingly is an American former professional baseball player who also served as a coach following his retirement. Also known by his nicknames “Donnie Baseball” and “The Hit Man”, he professionally debuted in the Major League Baseball (MLB) in 1982 for the New York Yankees as a first baseman. He stayed with the team until 1995, when he retired. In 2004, he started his coaching career with the Yankees. In 2008, he joined the Los Angeles Dodgers for which he would serve as a coach (2008-2010) and then as a manager (2011-2015). He has been the manager for the Miami Marlins since 2016.
Family Life
He was born to Mary and Bill Mattingly, a mailman. He was raised alongside four older siblings. He had three sons from his first marriage (1979-2007) to Kim Sexton. In 2010, he married Lori Mattingly.
Achievements
He was the recipient of nine Gold Glove Awards, three Silver Slugger Awards and the American League’s 1985 MVP award.
Trivia
He established a baseball and softball equipment company called Mattingly Sports.
