About Doc Watson
Multiple award-winning singer Arthel Lane Watson, professionally known as Doc Watson, began his musical career in 1953 as a member of a Tennessee–based band. As talented as he was, Watson played a number of musical instruments including the guitar and banjo.
Throughout his career which lasted for over five decades, the North Carolina-born singer released over 30 studio albums and 16 live albums. Some of his well-known albums include “Doc and the Boys” and “Then and Now”.
Personal Life
He married Rosa Lee Carlton in 1947 and they were blessed with two children, Nancy Ellen and musician Eddy Merle. He collaborated with the latter on many projects. Doc also performed with his grandson Richard Watson.
Education
He studied at the Governor Morehead School.
Achievements
Watson won the Grammy Awards seven times and was honored with its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004.
Trivia
He became blind before turning 2.
Some of his hit singles are: "Bottle of Wine" and "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right".
