Basketball star Dikembe Mutombo's heart may have been in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, but he made his fame in the United States.
Career
After moving to the U.S., Mutombo was recruited by Georgetown University to play basketball. At 7 feet and 2 inches tall, he was known for his extraordinary ability to block shots. He was soon drafted into the NBA in 1991 by the Denver Nuggets. He played for five teams total in the NBA.
Humanitarian Work
Mutombo worked to aid people in his home nation, founding the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation and donating millions to Biambe Marie Hospital.
