About Dick Enberg
The renowned American sport commentator Dick Enberg left a remarkable mark in the field of sport casting. He was recognized for his works in a number of media networks, including CBS Sports network. Also, he gave a sports broadcast for some major national teams, including the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Rams.
Family and Education
He was born to Arnie Enberg and Belle Elizabeth Weiss. He had his high school education at Armada and went to Central Michigan College. He later enrolled in Indiana University Bloomington and obtained a master’s and doctorate degree in health sciences.
Marriages and Children
He was married two times. His last marriage was with Barbara Hedbring whom he married in 1983. He fathered six children in total.
Career
Before venturing into the sport casting career, he was a broadcaster at various stations including the WSAM. He was also an assistant professor at the California State University in Northridge. In 1961, he broadcasted at his first game which was a NCAA basketball tournament event that saw the Cincinnati Bearcats men’s basketball take on the Ohio State Buckeyes men’s basketball.
Association
He provided a play-by-play sport cast with Don Drysdale during the second game of the American League Championship Series in 1977.
Honors
UCLA named its media center in honor of him.
Enberg received the Ambassador Award of Excellence from the LA Sports & Entertainment Commission.
Trivia
He appeared in a few films in his career. For example, he was in the 1976 action thriller movie “Two-Minute Warning”, which was directed by Larry Peerce. That same decade, he was in films like “Heaven Can Wait” and “Gus”.
Death
He died from a heart attack.
