About Dick Clark
Richard Wagstaff Clark, popularly known as Dick Clark, gained prominence for being the host of the show “American Bandstand” from 1956 to 1989. He was also popular for his annual New Year’s Eve celebration broadcasts from Times Square, “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve”. He was given the nickname “World’s Oldest Teenager” because of the appeal of the former show to teenage audiences.
Family Life
He and his brother, Bradley, were raised by their parents Julia Fuller and Richard Augustus Clark. He had a son with his first wife, Barbara Mallery. His second marriage, to Loretta Martin, lasted from 1962 to 1971 and produced two children. In 1977, he married Kari Wigton.
Achievements
He was inducted into the National Radio, Television, Broadcasting Magazine and Rock and Roll Halls of Fame. He also won four Emmy Awards and a Peabody Award.
Death
He was 82 when he passed away on April 18, 2012 from a heart attack.
