About Diana Damrau
Diana Damrau is a German soprano opera singer and a Kammersangerin of the Bavarian State Opera in Germany.
Education and Theatre Career
Diana studied opera at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg during which she developed edema on her vocal cord. She had to undergo treatment for more than a year.
After graduation she worked with Hanna Ludwig in Wurzburg and then at the National Theatre Mannheim and Oper Frankfurt. She has also performed at theatres in New York, London, Vienna and Milan.
In 2007, she set records by appearing as Pamina and Queen of the Night in two simultaneous performances. She played all four heroines in Offenbach’s “Les Contes d’Hoffmann” in 2011.
Opera Collections
She has performed several songs from various historic artists including Rossini, Weber, Strauss and Mozart.
She had a recording deal with EMI/ Virgin, through which she has released “Arie di Bravura”, “Coloraturas” and “Forever”.
Aside from audio, there are also video formats of her operas available on DVDs and online platforms such as YouTube.
Notable Awards and Honors
Among dozens of awards and honors, she won the 2008 German Record Critics’ Award, the 2011 Echo Klassik Award, and the highest Bavarian artistic award titled “Bayerischer Maximiliansorden” in 2010.
Trivia
The Metropolitan Opera in New York has been her favorite theatre outside Germany: she performed Verdi’s “Rigoletto” after her return from maternity and also had a remarkable opera in 2007 in the same theatre.
