About Denny Shute
Denny Shute was famously nicknamed “The Human Icicle” due to his mild temperament. The professional golfer dominated the sport in the 1930s, winning three major championships.
Early Years
Shute was the son of an English golf player, Hermon Shute. His family moved to the United States for Hermon to work at the Euclid Club. Shute attended Western Reserve University and married Hettie Marie Potts in 1930. They had a daughter called Nancy Paige.
Golfing Career
Shute turned pro in the 1930s and winning the Open Championship in 1933, as well as the 1936 and 1937 PGA Championships. Before 1999, he was the only golfer to win the PGA tournament consecutively. Shute also represented the USA in the Ryder Cup three times. In 2008, he was posthumously inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.
