About David Souter
David Souter is an American retired jurist who served as the Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from October 1990 to June 2009. After obtaining his Harvard Law School degree in 1963, he practiced privately for two years before going into public service as a prosecutor.
He became the New Hampshire Attorney General in 1976 and was promoted to the New Hampshire Superior Court two years later as an Associate Justice. He also served as an Associate Justice of the New Hampshire Supreme Court. From May to October 1990, he was a Judge of the US Court of Appeals’ First District.
Family Life
He was born to Helen Adams Hackett and Joseph Alexander Souter as an only child. He never got married.
Trivia
He retired from the United States Supreme Court in 2009, during Obama’s first year in office as president. He was reportedly tired of life in Washington and was eager to return to New Hampshire.
