About David Johnston
David Johnston worked with a number of academic institutions such as the University of Waterloo, and the University of Western Ontario before being appointed as Canada’s Governor General in 2010 by Queen Elizabeth II.
During his seven years in office, he built on Canada’s healthy relationship with other countries and helped to promote peace across the globe. He also supported the education system in the country by visiting and lecturing at some universities.
Family
He spent his early years with his parents Dorothy Stonehouse and Lloyd Johnston. In 1964, he tied the knot with Sharon Johnston and together they have five kids.
Education
Johnston played football during his time at Sault Collegiate Institute. He later attended Harvard University and graduated in 1959. He also studied at Cambridge’s Trinity Hall, as well as Queen's University.
Recognitions
His numerous accolades include the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal, and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
Trivia
He was a good ice hockey player during his time in the university.
He was a guest at the royal wedding between Catherine Middleton and Prince William, Duke of Cambridge.
