About David Ben-Gurion
David Ben-Gurion is credited with being the State of Israel’s primary national founder. From a young age, he nurtured his passion for Zionism and by 1946, he had become the World Zionist Organization’s executive head. He also led the Jewish community in Palestine before he declared the State of Israel‘s establishment in 1948.
As “Israel’s Founding Father”, he is known to have helped write the Declaration of Independence and signed it. He also led Israel in the Arab-Israel War of 1948 and subsequently served as the country’s minister of defence and first Prime Minister.
Family Life
He was the son of a “corner advocate” named Avigdor Grün and his first wife, Scheindel Broitman, who died in 1897 shortly after having a stillborn. He had three children with his wife, Paula Ben-Gurion.
Achievements
He was honored with the Bialik Prize and Solomon Bublick Award.
Death
He died of a cerebral haemorrhage on 1 December 1973.
