About Darren Ferguson
Darren Ferguson is a retired professional footballer and a coach from Scotland. He started playing football in his youth. In 1990, he made his first appearance for Manchester United's first team. Due to his lack of playing time at the club, he joined Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1994 for a transfer fee of £250,000. After spending five years with the team, he joined Sparta Rotterdam. That same year, Ferguson moved to Wrexham and spent nine years with the team.
As a football manager, the first club Ferguson managed was Peterborough United in 2007. After helping the said team to gain promotion, he left in 2009. The following year, he joined Preston North End. Another club he coached was Doncaster Rovers.
Family
He is the child of Alex Ferguson and Cathy. His two siblings are Jason Ferguson and Mark Ferguson. In 2003, he tied the knot with Nadine Metcalfe but divorced her after four years. After two years, he married his second wife named Nicola Noblet. His three children are Charlie Ferguson, Frankie Ferguson and Grace Ferguson.
Awards
At Manchester United, he won the 1992-1993 Premier League title and the 1993 FA Charity Shield. At Wrexham, he won four consecutive FAW Premier Cup (2000 to 2004) and one Football League Trophy. As a manager, he won the 2010-2011 Football League One play-offs and the 2013-2014 Football League Trophy.
Individually, Ferguson won the 2009 League Managers Association Awards. He has also won Football League One Manager of the Month seven times (March 2009, February 2011, August 2014, April 2014, October 2019, October 2020 and February 2021). Again, he has won two times Football League Two Manager of the Month (March 2008 and January 2017).
Trivia
His father is the retired Manchester United renowned coach.
In 2007, he was arrested and charged with the offense of an assault on his first wife.
During Ferguson’s playing days, he was a midfielder.
