About Daniel Burnham
Daniel Burnham was a popular American architect who worked on many skyscrapers in the United States. A student of the famous Beaux-Arts movement, Burnham began his work in 1873 when he teamed up with fellow architect John Wellborn Root to establish a company known as ‘Burnham and Root’.
The company worked on many historical structures including the Masonic Temple Building in Chicago, and the Montauk Building which is located in the same city. He also played a huge role in designing the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893 in which he served as the Director of Works. He was also celebrated for authoring the “Plan of Chicago” in 1909.
Family
His parents were Edwin Arnold and Elizabeth Keith Burnham. He had two sons with Margaret Sherman named Hubert and Daniel Jr.
Fun Facts
He played a part in the designing of cities like Manila, and Baguio in the Philippines.
He was trained by one of America’s finest architects, William LeBaron Jenney.
