About Dan Quayle
James Danforth Quayle won the 1976 election, which sent him to Congress to represent Indiana’s 4th district. He contested in the 1980 US States Senate elections during which he won the bid to represent the state of Indiana.
He was chosen by George H.W. Bush, then the Republican Party’s presidential nominee, to be his running mate in 1988. Following their victory in the 1988 US presidential election, he became the country’s 44th Vice President.
Family Life
He was born to newspaper publisher James Cline Quayle and Martha Corinne Pulliam. He has been married to lawyer and novelist Martha Tucker since 1972. They have three children together, including politician and lawyer Benjamin Quayle.
Post Political Life
After he and George H.W. Bush lost the 1992 election for a second-term bid, he went into writing and wrote a memoir and two other books between 1994 and 1999.
In 1999, he joined the equity company, Cerberus Capital Management. He changed his mind about contesting for the posts of Governor of Indiana and the Republican presidential nominee for the year 2000.
