Lowell "Cotton" Fitzsimmons shared the tenth spot on the all-time victories list in the 1990s with Phil Jackson. He attained this feat after winning 832 games in 21 seasons as a coach in the National Basketball Association.

Career
At Moberly Junior College in Moberly, Missouri, he accepted his first coaching position in 1956. In 1966 and 1967, he won two national junior college titles to cap an eleven-year coaching career there. He was employed by Kansas State University in 1968, where he coached basketball for two seasons before joining the NBA.
He worked as Kansas State University's assistant coach before taking the helm of the Phoenix Suns in 1970 and returning in 1986. He became the Atlanta Hawks' coach in 1972.
Starting in 1988-89, he led the Suns to four consecutive 50-win seasons and playoff appearances. After the team's 0-8 start in the 1996–97 season, he left his position as Phoenix's head coach.
For many years, he also worked as a commentator for the Phoenix Suns' radio and television broadcasts.
Personal Life
In 2004, he passed away from lung cancer, leaving behind his wife JoAnn and son.
