About Clint Benedict
Clint Benedict, a Canadian ice hockey goalie, earned the nickname "Praying Benny" for becoming the first goalie to get down on his knees to save the puck as it traveled down the ice at a time when doing so was against the rules. For his contributions, many consider him a major innovator in the sport.

He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame (1965)
Career
He participated in lacrosse for the Ottawa Stars, and won the city championship in 1911. He earned a professional lacrosse contract with the Ottawa Capitals Lacrosse Club. He was dealt to the Maroons after capturing three Stanley Cups with the Ottawa Senators.
His three shutouts in the Stanley Cup Finals against the Victoria Cougars helped the Maroons win a Stanley Cup (1926). For two seasons, he served as the Saint John Beavers' manager and coach.

He was the first NHL goalie to wear facial protection.
