About Claudio Caniggia
Claudio Caniggia is an Argentine soccer legend who made a name for himself as a striker. Aside from his goal scoring prowess, Caniggia was also admired for his overall teamwork which was another reason why he was sometimes used as a winger.
He started making a name for himself during his time with River Plate in his native Argentina. In 1988, he moved to Italy and signed for Hellas Verona. He went on to play in Portugal, Scotland, Qatar and England.
International career
After making his senior debut in 1987, Caniggia established himself as one of the core members in the Argentinian national team. He would be remembered for his brace in the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup in 1990.
The following year, he helped Argentina to win the Copa América. He was also a member of the team that won the 1992 edition of the FIFA Confederations Cup.
Family
Before their divorce in 2019, Caniggia had three children with Mariana Nannis named Charlotte Chantal, Kevin Axel and Alexander Dimitri. He has been married to model Sofia Bonelli.
Achievements
During his time with Rangers, the Argentine won the Scottish Premier League, Scottish League Cup, and the Scottish Cup. He also won the Primera División Argentina with River Plate.
Trivia
He missed the final of the FIFA World Cup in 1990 due to suspension.
In 2002, he became the first soccer player in the history of the World Cup to receive a red card while sitting on the bench.
