About Clarence Darrow
Clarence Darrow’s high-profile legal cases and clients made him an icon in the early 20th century. Having self-studied law after dropping out of the University of Michigan Law School, he went on to undergo an apprenticeship at a law office until he passed his bar exam and got called to the bar in Ohio in 1878. He practiced in the state for a decade before moving to Chicago, where he later began taking on labor law cases. He also garnered national fame later as a criminal lawyer, taking on cases such as the Leopold and Loeb, Ossian Sweet, Massie Trial and Scopes Trial.
Family Life
The child of Emily Eddy and Amirus Darrow, he was raised in Kinsman, Ohio. His marriage to Jessie Ohl from 1880 to 1897 produced a son, Paul Edward Darrow. In 1903, he married Ruby Hammerstrom.
Death
He died from pulmonary heart disease on March 13, 1938.
