Chely Wright is an American recording artist, activist and author. She first rose to prominence in the late 1990s through her country music career, which spun hits such as “Single White Female” and “Shut Up and Drive”.
After her closeted lesbian sexuality made her suicidal, she came out to the general public in 2010 and found success as an author with her autobiography “Like Me: Confessions of a Heartland Country Singer”. She has since been heavily involved in LGBT activism, especially for the youth.
Family Life
She married Lauren Blitzer in 2011. She had twin sons in May 2013.
Achievements
Wright has earned nominations from GLAAD and the Country Music Association Awards. She has also been a recipient of an Academy of Country Music Award.
Trivia
She documented her coming out story through the film “Wish Me Away”.
