About Charlie Daniels
Charlie Daniels was an American musician who specialized in the country genre of music and had been a part of the industry for over 50 years. In fact, he is considered to be a legendary country musician, being honored by a number of reputable institutions and being best known for his hit song, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”.
Early in his career, as a session musician, he worked with the likes of Bob Dylan and Ringo Starr.
Family Life
He married a woman named Hazel in 1964. And their son’s name is Charlie Daniels, Jr.
Achievements
Between 1970 and 2016 he released over 30 studio albums.
His signature song, 1979’s “The Devil Went Down to Georgia, topped Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart and also earned him a Grammy Award in the category of Best Country Vocal Performance.
He has been enshrined in the Cheyenne Frontier Days Hall of Fame (2002), the Grand Old Opry (2008), the Musician Hall of Fame and Museum (2009) and finally the Country Music Hall of Fame (2016).
In 2005, at the BMI Country Awards, he was dubbed a BMI icon. And in 2006 he took home the American Music Associations’ “Sprit of Americana” Free Speech Award due to the outspoken views, which helped define his career.
He had his own website which not only dealt with his music but also his political views.
Trivia
He was known to be a fan of the sports teams belonging to the University of Tennessee.
He also took a strong anti-abortion stance in 2019.
He dealt with a number of medical issues throughout the years, including a broken arm and fingers in 1980, prostate cancer, which he beat, in 2001 and a stroke in 2010.
He ultimately died of a stroke.
