About Charles Spurgeon
Charles Spurgeon was one of the most influential preachers of the 19th century. Born into a family of clerics with his grandfather and father being non-conformists, he converted to the Baptist faith at age 15 after accidentally hearing a sermon at a Primitive Methodist chapel. A year later, he was made a pastor at the local Waterbeach Baptist church.
At 19 years old, he was invited as a visiting pastor at the New Park Street Chapel, where he ended up becoming a resident preacher for 38 years. The growing numbers led to the church being moved to the then-newly-built Metropolitan Tabernacle in 1861.
Family Life
He was the son of Eliza and John Spurgeon. He was married to Susanah Spurgeon and had twin sons; Thomas and Charles Spurgeon. Thomas became a minister at the Metropolitan Tabernacle.
