About Charles Olson
Charles Olson was a prominent and influential 19th-century literary theorist and poet from America. He has been globally recognized as the first person to use the word, postmodern, to discuss American poetry.
He also gained recognition for being the foremost influential personality of post-World War II American poets.
As a teenager, he was already endowed with the gift of writing and speaking publicly. This was made evident when he was adjudged a champion orator in high school.
Olson also worked as a lecturer. He taught English literature and English language at higher educational institutions such as Wesleyan University, Clark University, Radcliffe College, Black Mountain College, and the University of Connecticut.

In 1947, he published his first book titled “Call Me Ishmael”. Other works of his include:

He was the child of Mary Hines and Karl Joseph. He married twice. First to Constance Wilcock, and later to Elizabeth Kaiser. He birthed two children named Charles Peter and Katherine.

He died of liver cancer in 1970.

He was the recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship for Humanities, US & Canada Award. Also, he won the American Book Award.
