About Charles Darwin
Charles Darwin was a very important English scientist, naturalist and author known as the most influential contributor to evolutionary theory. His 1859 book titled On the Origin of Species, which he would ultimately become best known for, introduced the theory that all species of living things evolve over time through natural selection. The book ended up becoming the foundation of evolutionary biology. He is regarded by many as one of the most influential figures in world history.
Personal Life
He married his first cousin Emma Darwin in 1839. Emma bore him 10 children, three of whom died young.
Trivia
He hated slavery.
He voyaged for almost five years around the world aboard the HMS Beagle. His account of the voyage was what gave birth to his massively successful 1839 book The Voyage of the Beagle.
He was honored by being buried next to Sir Isaac Newton in Westminster Abbey.
