American cartoonist Cathy Guisewite is known for her creation of “Cathy”, which ran from 1976 to 2010. The comic strip earned her an Emmy Award for the category of “Outstanding Animated Program” in 1987.
Family and Education
She grew up in Midland, Michigan. She is the daughter of William L. Guisewite and Anne Guisewite. She had her education at Midland High School and graduated with a degree in English from the University of Michigan.
Guisewite married Christopher Wilkinson in 1997 but the couple got separated in 2011. She has an adopted child called Ivy.
Career Highlight
She worked at Campbell-Ewald and W.B. Doner & Co advertising company after she graduated from school. In 1976, she was made the vice president of W.B. Doner & Co and that same year, she received the contract to create a comic strip.
She designed “Cathy”, which focused on the life of a career woman. The comic strip was distributed to over 55 newspapers, and by 1990, it had made appearances in close to 1200 newspapers.
Her publications include “The Cathy Chronicles” and “Eat Your Way to a Better Relationship”.
Achievements
The American cartoonist was the recipient of the Reuben Award in 1993. Also, she received an honorary degree from Rhode Island College.
