About Cass Elliot
Cass Elliot, also known as "Mama Cass", was a celebrated American singer and actress fondly remembered for being a member of the iconic folk rock vocal group The Mamas & the Papas, who released a string of hits such as California Dreamin, Monday, Monday and Dedicated to the One I Love. Her career and life tragically came to an end when she died suddenly in her sleep in 1978. She was only 32 years old.
Family Life
She was the older sister of singer Leah Kunkel of the Coyote Sisters fame. She also had a brother named Joseph Cohen. She became the wife, successively of musician James Hendricks of The Big 3 fame and journalist Donald von Wiedenman. In 1968, she gave birth to her only child, Owen Vanessa Elliot. She never publicly revealed the identity of Owen's father.
Trivia
Contrary to urban legend, she did not choke to death on a sandwich. The official cause of her death was a heart failure.
Four years after her death, the iconic drummer of The Who, Keith Moon, was also found dead in the same flat where she died. Oddly enough, he too was 32 years old when he died.
