About Carl Reiner
Carl Reiner was an American actor, comedian, filmographer and writer who during his decades-spanning career had been involved in a number of big-time Hollywood projects and worked with some of the greatest names in entertainment history. For instance, he was part and parcel of “The Dick Van Dyke Show” of the 1960s, the Ocean comedy/crime movie series of the 2000s and a bunch of other successful films in-between.
He was a member of the Air Force himself during WWII. And it was during that time he got into acting, entertaining his fellow troops via plays the Army conducted.
He played the character of Saul Bloom in Brad Pitt / George Clooney’s version of “Ocean’s Eleven” (2001), as well as its two sequels.
Family Life
His parents were named Irving and Bessie Reiner. His older brother, Charlie, died in WWII.
His wife, who passed away in 2008, was Estelle Lebost. His children, who are all into the arts, are Rob, Annie and Lucas Reiner.
Achievements
During the 1950s, after doing some Broadway acting, he hooked up with the likes of Woody Allen, Sid Caesar and Mel Brooks.
In the two-three decades that followed he would work extensively with Mel Brooks, with the pair winning a Grammy together in 1975 for Spoken Comedy Album.
It was actually Reiner who originated, wrote and directed “The Dick Van Dyke Show”, which established both Mary Tyler Moore and the titular actor as celebrities.
He is also credited with helping to establish the career of Steve Martin.
He took home a Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in 2000.
He was enshrined on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame as far back as 1960.
In 1999 he was also inducted into the Television Hall of Fame.
Reiner also took home 11 Emmy Awards throughout his career.
