About Carl Nielsen
Danish composer and conductor Carl Nielsen produced his first Op.1 when he was twenty-three years old in 1888. Most of his songs have become part of national legacy.
Personal life and Education
He was the son of Niels Jorgenson and Maren Kirstine Jorgenson. He had eleven siblings. For his education, he attended the Royal Danish Academy of Music.
He was married to Danish sculptor Anne Marie Brodersen. Carl-Nielsen had three biological children and two illegitimate children.
Career
He started composing songs at an early age with the piano and violin. When he was in his teens, he became a bugler and alto trombonist in the army band. His career benefited tremendously from the training he received from Danish musician Orla Rosenhoff. This was further enhanced after his well-received performance in Berlin in 1896.
The German composer produced six symphonies which include “Espansiva”and “Sinfonia Semplice''.
Other Important Facts
Nielson was associated with Italian composer and conductor Ferruccio Busoni.
He performed in places like the Tivoli Concert Hall and Tivoli Gardens.
Nielson taught at the Royal Academy.
He’s the author of the autobiography titled “My Childhood on Funen”.
