About Carl Levin
During the early stages of his political career, Carl Levin worked with the Detroit City Council where he would later be named the president in 1973. Five years later, he became a U.S. Senator representing the people of Michigan. He also served on many government groups which include the Committee on Armed Services, Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, and the Select Committee on Intelligence.
Family
He was one of the children of Saul R. Levin and Bess Rachel Levinson. His brother was fellow American politician Sander Levin. In 1961, he tied the knot with Barbara Halpern, with whom he had four children.
Education
He studied at Detroit Central High School before getting his first degree at Swarthmore College. He was further trained at Harvard Law School.
Award
The Global Financial Integrity honored him with the Exemplary Leadership Award in 2011. Three years later, he received the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation Leadership Award, and First Global Citizen Award.
Trivia
Time magazine listed him in their "10 best senators" compilation in 2006.
He was also known for starting the “Stop Tax Haven Abuse Act”.
