Early life
Bernstein enrolled at Montgomery Blair High School, Maryland. He worked at “The Washington Star” during his teens.
In 1965, he worked as a reporter for New Jersey’s “Elizabeth Daily Journal.” However, his reports and stories for “The Washington Post” gave him his initial publicity.
Watergate Scandal
In 1972, The Washington Post assigned Bernstein and Bob Woodward to cover a burglary case at the Watergate complex in the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee. Bernstein’s further investigations led him to discover the involvement of President Richard Nixon with the crime. His investigations led to Nixon’s resignation in August 1974 to avoid impeachment.
Career
He has worked with CNN, C.B.S., and A.B.C. as an investigative journalist and political commentator. Bernstein’s research of the U.S. media and C.I.A. during the “Cold War” was published by Rolling stone magazine.
