About Camarón de la Isla
Only a few musicians have significantly altered the sound of their genre. On that small list is the flamenco singer Camaron de la Isla. He revitalized a long-standing custom, bringing flamenco into the 20th century and beyond.
Career
Prior to his illustrious collaboration with Paco de Lucia, he began his career in Cadiz, where he performed at venues like La Venta de Vargas alongside his lifelong companion Rancapino, another renowned figure in the cante industry.
With the flamenco group of Miguel de los Reyes, he is said to have had his first professional performance at the La Taverna Gitana in Málaga. At the age of sixteen, he won the top honor at the 1V Festival de Cante Jondo.
He met Paco de Luca while working at Tablao Torres Bermejas; and between 1969 and 1977, they collaborated on nine albums. He collaborated with flamenco guitarist Tomatito since Paco de Luca's solo concerts took up more of his time.

Dolores Montaya, who was 16 when they wed, was the mother of their four children. Due to his smoking and drug usage, his health deteriorated.
