About Burgess Meredith
Burgess Meredith, born Oliver Burgess Meredith, was an actor, producer, director and writer. He began his career on stage in 1929 as a member of the New York City-based Civic Repertory Theater Company. Most fans will remember him for starring roles in the “Rocky” film franchise as Mickey Goldmill and “Of Mice and Men” as George Milton.
Personal Life
He was born to William George Meredith and Ida Beth Burgess. He practised Methodism, the religious denomination he was born into, until his final breath.
His first three marriages, to Helen Derby Merrien and actresses Paulette Goddard and Margaret Perry ended in divorces after a few years. He got married for the fourth time to Kaja Sundsten, who bore him two children. They were married from 1950 until his death.
Achievements
For his performance in “Rocky”, he earned an Academy Award nomination for “Best Supporting Actor” in 1976. His star can be found on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Death
He passed away at 89 years old from melanoma and Alzheimer’s disease.
