About Bruce Bowen
Bruce Bowen began his career in France after he was not selected during the NBA draft in 1993. That same year, he was signed by Le Havre in France’s National Basketball League. After four years in the country, Bowen returned to the United States in 1997 and signed for the Rockford Lightning in the Continental Basketball Association.
He played his first NBA game later that year after he signed for the Miami Heat. He was traded to the Boston Celtics before joining the Philadelphia 76ers in 1999. He played for the San Antonio Spurs between 2001 and 2009 and helped them to win three NBA championships.
International career
Mostly used as a small forward, Bowen was selected into the U.S. men's basketball team in 2006 and participated in the FIBA World Championships later that year.
Family
The former basketball star spent his early years with his parents Dietra Campbell and Bruce Bowen Sr. He was raised by his uncle Darryl. He has mentioned Sandra and Robert Thrash as his adopted parents. Before divorcing Yardley Barbon in 2012, the couple had two kids.
Education
After his education at Edison High School, he joined California State University in Fullerton.
Achievements
He was selected into the All-Defensive First Team on five occasions. The San Antonio Spurs have retired the number 12 jersey to honor his contributions to the team.
