About Brian Blade
The American jazz and blues rock musician created The Fellowship Band in 1977 with musicians Jon Cowherd, Myron Walden, Melvin Butler among others. The composer has worked with labels such as Columbia, Warner Bros and Verve.
Education
He studied at Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Career
The band’s premiere album was “Brian Blade Fellowship” in 1998. Two years later, Blade collaborated with guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel on the studio album “Perceptual”. He launched another collection titled “Season of Changes” on May 6, 2008.
Blade also sang and wrote songs and released “Mama Rosa”, his first work as a songwriter. It featured Canadian musician and singers Keller Jones and Daryl Johnson among others. The album was produced by Blade and Adam Samuels.
Honors
He won an ECHO Jazz Award for “International Artist of the Year Drums/Percussion” in 2013. The same year, he received a Grammy Award for “Best Jazz Instrumental Album” for “Triology” (Concord), with Chick Corea.
