About Brett Holman
Brett Holman is an Australian footballer who earned the Eredivisie title in 2009 during his stay with the Dutch side AZ Alkmaar.
Personal Life and Education
He was born and raised in Sydney, Australia. He attended Christian Brothers High School.
Career
Holman played as an attacking midfielder. His first appearance in football was with Parramatta Power but before that, he played with the Northern Spirit during his youth days.
He left Australia for the Netherlands and played with Feyenoord. He joined SBV Excelsior as a loan player, and in 2006, he was signed by NEC Nijmegen. At Nijmegen, he featured over 55 times, scoring more than 10 goals.
After NEC Nijmegen, he was signed by AZ Alkmaar in 2008. He scored his first goal for the club during the match against SC Heerenveen and also scored a goal in the UEFA Europa League. He was capped over 90 times for AZ, scoring over 15 goals in the process.
His next club was Aston Villa which he joined in 2012. His first goal at Aston Villa was in a pre-season match against Burton Albion.
Aside from the above-mentioned clubs, he played for clubs like Al Nasr, Emirates Club, and Brisbane Roar. It was at the latter he hung up his boots.
He played for his national team and his first match was Australia against Bahrain in 2013. He was capped 63 times, scoring nine goals for his national team.
Honors
With Al-Nasr, Holman won the UAE League Cup and a UAE President’s Cup.
He was voted as the “Footballer of the Year” in 2012 by the Football Australia (FFA).
