Brandon Emil Phillips is a professional baseball second baseman from the United States. In Major League Baseball, he played for a number of teams, including Los Angeles Angels, Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox, Cincinnati Reds, and Atlanta Braves.
Phillips throws right-handed and uses both bats.
Family and Background
Phillips went to Redan High School in Stone Mountain, Georgia, and played basketball and baseball there. He was his high school's top baseball player.
He married Jade Cargill, with whom he has a daughter.
Career Highlights
He was drafted as a baseman by the Montreal Expos in the second round of the 1999 MLB draft after signing a letter of intent to play baseball and football at the University of Georgia. On June 21, 1999, he signed with the Expos.
He was part of a six-player trade that sent him from the Montreal Expos to the Cleveland Indians on June 27, 2002, after several years in the Expos farm system. He won the Indians' starting second base job in 2003. He had a season-high six-game hitting streak during the season and spent the majority of 2005 with the Buffalo Bisons. He appeared in six games for the Indians in July before being sent back down.
He appeared in 135 major league games for the Cleveland Indians over four seasons, batting 206 with six home runs and 38 RBIs.
Achievements
He won the Golden Glove Award in 2013.
