About Boyko Borisov
In 2001, Bulgarian politician Boyko Borisov joined the country’s Ministry of Interior as their Chief Secretary. Four years later, he contested in the parliamentary elections but, though he won, decided to hold on to his previous post. A member of the National Movement Simeon II political party, he later contested for the mayoral position in Sofia and was sworn into office in 2005.
Four years later, alongside other prominent politicians in the country, he created the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria and served as its first chairman. He led the party to victory in the general elections in 2009 and was sworn into office as Bulgaria’s Prime Minister that same year. He left the position in 2021 after serving for three terms.
Family
His mother Veneta Borisova worked as a school teacher, while his dad Metodi Borisov was a government worker. He divorced Stela Borisova and has also been in a relationship with Tsvetelina Borislavova. His daughter is called Veneta.
Trivia
He played a key role in the arrest of Sreten Jocić, a notorious Serbian mobster.
The U.S. Congressional Quarterly, in 2007, accused him of flirting with one of Bulgaria’s biggest mobsters.
