About Bonnie Dunbar
Bonnie Dunbar joined the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in the 1970s. She was initially stationed at the organization’s Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center where she worked as a flight controller.
In 1981, she became an astronaut of NASA and joined the Astronaut Office Science Support Group. At the NASA headquarters, she worked at the Office of Life and Microgravity Sciences as the Deputy Associate Administrator in 1993.
The American astronaut is one of the few individuals who have embarked on five different missions to space. Her adventures, which happened from 1985 to 1998, have earned her a place in the history books. After ending her work with NASA in 2005, she joined The Museum of Flight as its CEO and president.
Private Life
She has been married to fellow astronaut Ronald M. Sega.
Education
After her education at Sunnyside High School, she enrolled at the University of Washington where she obtained her first and second degrees. She later moved to the University of Houston for her PhD program.
Recognitions
In 2002, she was selected to join the famous National Academy of Engineering. She received her fifth NASA Space Flight Medal in 1998. Two years later, she became a member of the Women in Technology International Hall of Fame.
Trivia
In 2016, she was made a professor at Texas A&M University.
She was a member of the STS-32, STS-71, STS-61-A, STS-89, and STS-50 space shuttles.
