About Bob Wian
Robert C. Wian was a pioneer in employee relations and one of the first restaurant owners to offer profit-sharing and health insurance programs to staff members. He founded the Big Boy restaurant chain, which was best known for its double-deck hamburgers and chubby boy mascot dressed in red-and-white checkered overalls.
Biography
His family relocated from Philadelphia to Glendale when he was a child. With the $350 he received from selling his automobile, he founded Bob's Pantry. He grew Bob's Pantry into one of the most well-known and prosperous family restaurant companies. The restaurant also went global, with several hundreds of locations.
He changed the name to Bob's Big Boy a few years later and converted it into a drive-in restaurant, serving dime hamburgers, French fries, and shakes.
The Philadelphia-born businessman served as the president of Big Boy Restaurants of America for about a year after selling Big Boy. He retired after serving on the Marriott board for a year.
Family Life
His only biological son was a product of his marriage to Frances Abbot. He had three kids with June Ealey-Baehler.
