About Bob Dole
Robert J. Dole was a congressman for the Kansas House of Representative’s 81st district from 1951 to 1953 prior to serving as County Attorney for Russell County (1953-1961).
Between 1961 and 1969, he was in the U.S. House of Representatives as a representative for Kansas’ 6th (1961-1963) and 1st districts (1963-1969).
He also served as the Kansas State Senator from 1969 to 1996, during which he occupied positions such as Chair of the Senate Finance Committee, Minority Leader and Majority Leader.
He lost his bid to become the President of the United States on the ticket of the Republican Party in 1996.
Family Life
His parents’ names were Bina and Doran Dole. He was first married to Phyllis Holden, the mother of his only child, from 1948 to 1972. He married former Senator Elizabeth Hanford in 1975.
Achievements
He was a recipient of the Congressional Gold Medal, Presidential Medal of Freedom and Presidential Citizens Medal.
Trivia
He endorsed Donald Trump for the 2016 presidential elections.
