Billie Burke was a celebrated American actress best remembered for playing the character Glinda the Good Witch in the 1939 musical comedy-drama film The Wizard of Oz. She is also known for playing the character Emily Kilbourne in the 1938 comedy film Merrily We Live, for which she received an Academy Award nomination. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Family Life
She was the daughter of Mary and William Burke. She was married to American Broadway impresario Florenz Ziegfeld, Jr. from 1914 to 1932. The union produced her only child, a daughter named Patricia Ziegfeld Stephenson, who became a renowned author.
Rumors
She reportedly preferred dating women to men and was said to be in a discreet romantic relationship with renowned lesbian film director Dorothy Arzner.
