About Berkeley Breathed
Best known for his comic strip “Bloom County”, this American cartoonist and novelist has had many of his works featured in various publications such as the N.Y.C-based magazine Travel+Leisure.
Earlier works
His first published strip “Academia Waltz” was featured in the Daily Texan in 1978. Impressed by his works, the Washington Post hired him to work on a nationally syndicated strip. In 1980, “Bloom County” debuted. The comic strip highlighted some of the characters from “Academia Walt”, including Steve Dallas and Cutter John.
Later Works
By 2018, he had published ten children’s books, two of which became animated film adaptations. He was hired by American Greetings, the greeting cards producing company, to design a greeting card and a gift ensemble.
He also created the cartoon art in the 2003 drama “Secondhand Lions.”
Award
In 1987, he received the Pulitzer Prize for his editorial cartooning for “Bloom County.”

He guest-starred in the 2004 biographical film “Tim Warner: A Life in the Clouds.”
