Bashar al-Assad is a Syrian politician. He has been President of the country since 2000, commander-in-chief of Syrian Armed Forces and General Secretary of the Ba'ath Party.
His Highlights/Legacy
In 1998, he took charge of the Syrian occupation of Lebanon. He has been mainly responsible for the Syrian Civil War. He has been implicated in war crimes by the United Nations. Despite all these, he was elected for another 7-year term in 2014.
His Personal Life
His father was Hafez al-Assad, who was President of Syria from 1971 to 2000. He is married to Asma al-Assad and they have 3 children.
