About Barbara Park
Children’s books author Barbara Park was best known for penning the Junie B. Jones series that delighted many young children for more than 20 years. The author had a decorated career, selling over 55 million copies worldwide.
Early Life
Park was born to Doris and Brooke Tidswell and grew up in Mount Holly, New Jersey. She attended Rider College and later completed her degree at the University of Alabama. She had initially wanted to teach but realized that her love for writing was too strong; hence she became a writer.
Career & Works
After getting rejected many times, Park’s first book “Don’t Make Me Smile” was published in 1981 and “Operation: Dump the Chump” the following year. She wrote other books, including “Ma! There’s Nothing to Do Here!” and “The Kid in the Red Jacket.”
Awards
Throughout her career, she won many children’s book awards, including 25 Children’s Choice Awards, the Library of Congress Book of the Year in 1987, and the 1986 Milner Award.
Personal Life
She married Richard Park in 1969 and had two sons, Steven and David. Park passed away in 2013 from ovarian cancer.
