Her parents were Nell and Charles Bunyan Cook. She married David LeGrant in 1952; however, the fairytale union faded thirteen years later and the couple went their separate ways. She had one child named Adam, who was born in 1959.
Career
The Atlanta, Georgia-born actress first appeared in a Broadway show in the short musical “Flahooley” in 1951. She later played the role of "Ado Annie" in Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Oklahoma!”
Cook first performed on television in 1952 on the show "Armstrong Circle Theatre", which ran from 1950 to 1957.
In 1955, the actress had a supporting role in the musical comedy "Plain and Fancy". Her performance as Hilda Miller garnered her some bit of public acclaim.
During the 1960s, she was cast in musicals such as "The King and I" 'The Gay Life' and "Something More". She also had roles in "Any Wednesday" and "The Grass Harp". The former, which was based on a play of the same title by American playwright Muriel Resnik, saw the actress appear in a cast that included Rosemary Murphy, Jane Fonda and Jason Robards, among others.
Awards
She won a Tony Award for her performance in the 1957 musical "The Music man".
Death
Her death was reported on August 8, 2017. The cause of death was respiratory failure.
