About Aung San
Aung San was a politician and an individual who advocated for the independence of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. He founded the Tatmadaw (Armed Forces of Myanmar).
Due to the key role he played in his country’s breakaway from British rule, he has been recognized as the Father of the Nation of his country. San was the 5th Premier of the British Crown Colony of Burma for a year (1946-1947).
In 1947, during the Burmese general election, San contested on the ticket of the Anti-Fascist People's Freedom League Party which he won. However, his reign was short-lived as a result of his assassination, which happened in 1947.
Education
He was educated at Yenangyaung High School, and Rangoon University.
Family
He was born to Daw Su and U Pha. He had eight siblings including Ba Win. His grandmother was called Daw Thu Sa. In 1924, he got married to Khin Kyi. His four children are Aung San Oo, Aung San Lin, Aung San Suu Kyi, and Aung San Chit. He had a nephew named Sein Win.
Trivia
He was known by other legal names including Htein Lin, Bo Teza, and Omoda Monji.
One of his children, Aung San Suu Kyi, is a politician, diplomat, and author.
San also founded the All-Burma Student Union.
